The clinch is a position, not a scramble

Most Western fighters treat the clinch as something to survive. Out here it is where the fight is decided.

Watch a Thai fighter in the clinch and the first thing you notice is how little is happening. No thrashing, no ripping for position. They get an inside grip, straighten their posture, and wait for you to make it worse for yourself.

Three things, in order

Posture first. If your head is down you have already lost the exchange, no matter how strong your grip is.

Then hands: inside beats outside, every time, and a wrist is worth more than a bicep.

Then hips. Knees come from turning, not from pulling.

How to drill it

Rounds where neither of you is allowed to knee. Just grip fighting. It is boring and it will do more for your clinch in a month than a year of trying to knee your way out of trouble.
